Come stay at the home of lumber and cattle baron William Kent, one of the early settlers of Mendocino County.
Kent listened to tales about huge redwood trees in northern California while working in the lumber industry in Maine. He decided to pack his sawmill on a sailing ship and sail around South America to log the giant redwoods.
After starting a successful logging operation in Mendocino County Big River Basin, Kent realized there was more money in providing beef to the expanding lumber industry than in logging.
Kent then purchased a 1000-acre tract just one mile south of the town of Mendocino Ca. and started a dairy and cattle ranch. The property is now called Spring Ranch as the Springs were the last family to operated the ranch.
